Audio in Video Clip - Problem

I received an email from a client trying to capture video in Snagit. But when trying to play the snagit video no sound was heard.
Hi Peter
I’m having a problem and wonder if you could offer some advice. The audio in
video clips with sound that I’m recording is not showing up any longer.
Until recently, the audio was just fine. I’m not aware of any changes I’ve
made in recording or settings. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks a lot
Mark
Read on to find the solution to this common Snagit sound problem…
Hi Mark,
Good to hear from you.
The problem you are describing is not related to Snagit, it is related to the settings of your sound card.
Often these settings are changed by different software without you changing any settings. Any software that works with sound on your computer can actually influence the settings.
What also complicates matters is that every brand of sound card work differently.
How to set up sound when recording video with Snagit
First off, make sure you have the correct Snagit profile “Record Screen Video” or if you have made your own profiles, one that activates the Snagit screen video recording.

Step 2) Make sure you have the “microphone” (symbolizes sound) active
Look at the bottom of the Snagit management window, the Options area and make sure that the Microphone is active. It needs to have a blue circle to be active.

Step 3) Record and test
Do a quick recording of something making sound and see if the sound is recorded in the video.
If not you will need to change the settings of the sound card.
Step 4) Go to Options
This is handled a little bit different in Vista and XP.
In Vista:
1. Choose Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Recording tab.
2. Right-click in that window and select Show Disabled Devices.
If you are still not getting sound after enabling devices, experiment a little bit with different settings to get it working.
In XP:
1. Choose Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Audio tab.
2. In Sound recording section, verify your sound card is selected as the Default Device.
Also experiment a little bit with different settings here.
Let me know how it goes.
Hope you had some help from this one too.
Until next time

Audio capture with video works only works using the microphone if I get a male/male plug and plug the speaker output into the mike input. Then it works great. An easier way is go to “Control Panel”, “Sound and Audio Devices”, then under “Sound Recording” click “Volume” then deselect the microphone input and select “Wave Out Mix” and set the volume. Works like a champ. I have to rediscover this each time because I use it so seldom but it works.

Hello
I did all the above and STILL there is no sound on my snagit captures.
Please help I am trying to put together a presentation.
Thanks
Jacki
It does work. Basically, you have to change your configurations in the settings under control panel - sounds and audio devices - then audio then sound playback and recording. I set mine for default device: of soundmax for both. Then you need a wire from your audio out/ headphone speaker wire into your line in/ microphone.. Then you have to trust that it is working or test it. Then undo the wire and you should hear the sound or put in a headphones and play your recording.
Hope this helps.
