Help me improve Snagit…
In my humble opinion (but running this blog, perhaps a little biased) Snagit is as good as software can be. And I know many readers agree. But as someone once said, there is always room for improvement. That’s why I am curious as to what you would like to add if/when Snagit 9.0 is released.
I will send all comments to the Snagit development team so please include any additions to Snagit that you have thought about, are missing, you would like to add and so on. Please pour your heart out in the comment section below!
If you have colleagues, friends and family using Snagit, please ask them to put in their 5 cents here too.
The popular cliché “think outside the box” is perhaps true, but sometimes it’s easier to “think inside the box” so here is a basic breakdown of areas/functions you may have ideas about or want to change:
- Graphic interface. Is it easy to use, could it be improved, perhaps a complete new layout? Do you have any other software products that you think has a great layout that Snagit could benefit from looking at and so on. Share your ideas.
- Capture functionality. Are there any capture modes you feel are missing? Could there be other changes to the capture functionality. Is it easy enough to set up new capture profiles and so on?
- Editing functionality. What about editing your screen captures, do you use the Snagit Editor, what should be changed in the editor?
- Sharing functionality. Like to share your images with others, if so – how?
- Add-ons. Any software you would like to have an output available directly from inside Snagit.
- Other areas. Any other areas that you feel improvements would be helpful.
OK, I’ll go first…
Here are a few of the things I would like to see improved.
About the interface
I like the Snagit 8 interface, but I would like the software to remember my favorite profiles and steps I have taken to create a profile.
For example when doing screen captures for my blogs I often like to decrease the file size to 75%, set up a shadow and save it in png. After I have done this a couple of times perhaps the software can ask if I would like to make this a Capture Profile.
Editing Functionality
I dream of when will Snagit incorporate layers. If you have done any work with Photoshop you know what I mean. Let’s say you have worked with adding elements to your image, perhaps Text, Stamps or Callouts and you would like to remove one of the elements that you included earlier. Now you can choose to step back in the editor and remove everything that you added until you have backed all the way up to the element that you want to remove.
It would be lovely just being able to click on the element you wish to remove and remove it.
More Snagit Editor improvements
I work a lot with the editor and I love the new glassy callouts and similar effects released in I believe Snagit 8.2. It would be great to have more shadow and “button” effects could be added to the editor.
If you have looked at the effects in SmartDraw you know what I mean. The Image here show the SmartDraw shadow effects. Check out SmartDraw 2008.
Another great edit feature would be if I could save a number of steps when editing and perform them as one function. Kind of like the Capture profiles, but in a specific order.

In Snagit 9 could you look at providing an alternative lighter skin on the top tool bar – I find the very small icons don’t show up very well against the dark background of the tool bar, particularly the rotate icons. Slightly larger icons on the toolbar would also be very welcome !

I have a query, When I want to capture some screen one by one, but I also want to add some text to every screen I capture. I think this feature is not available.
Can any one know it..?
I think this is a great product at a great price and I recommend it to anyone without hesitation. Could we please have an add-in to send to a Lotus Notes document…? I think I am a lone voice here which is a worry since I would be the first to agree Notes is a corporate tool more than a consumer tool… but there are 50 millions seats out there..
I have no desire to save the vast majority of captures to Snagit. Yet deleting the capture also sends it to the recycle bin from wherever (desktop or folder) it has been saved. Have to retrieve it from the recycle bin each time. I;m reverting to v. 8.2 until this gets fixed.
also the teensy size of the undo, redo, print, save, etc buttons is difficult and the black interface only makes it worse.
I recently created a document in which I captured screen shots and sent them to a MS Word document. This usually works fine; but in the latest version the software became confused. I had the Word document open; and I was in the process of composing a new email message in Outlook, so that window was also open. The screen capture was sent to the Outlook email message instead of the Word document. This happened several times and each time I selected the Word output feature.
I am using SnagIt a lot also to batch-convert images (from PNG to JPG, for example).
Since v8, the usability of this feature was greatly degraded relatively to v7, and v9 didn’t change anything
- SnagIt doesn’t remember former conversion directory
- right-clicking the icon doesn’t contain anymore the link to batch convert, so I am obliged to open, etc…
I’d like these simple features to be back in 9.1…
I would love to have an easier way to do the scroll features. Try as I might, many times when I try to secure part of the window on the auto-scroll feature(s), it takes only part of the image and not the entire portion that I want. This is a great feature, but need for it to be easier…or I need to be faster. *)8-D
Can Snagit 9 open and edit pdf files, and then save the edited file? If not, this woud be a great added feature.

An output to Evernote would be great.
When I capture images, I print and save the image before I move to the next one I want to capture. If I get interrupted for whatever reason, I’ve found myself wondering if I had saved the current image. The screen that appears when I capture an image does not display a file name after an image is saved and you are returned to the initial screen. I’m comparing this operation to the save operation in other applications such as Word or Visio and most other document applications that I am familiar with.
It would be nice if the file name that I gave the current image appeared somewhere on the screen after it is saved and I return to the initial image screen so I can verify that I have, in fact, saved the current image. This would prevent redundant saving and naming of images because I usually employ a generic naming scheme that defines an image category and I only change the number that is a part of the file name to save time when I’m capturing a large number of images. I need to ensure that a needed image is not accidently discarded and lost. If this information is already available somewhere on the Snagit capture screen please let me know. Thank You
IMP: The Vertical Auto-Scroll is only from TOP-to-BOTTOM of a scroll window. How about BOTTOM-to-TOP? Didn’t anyone thought about that? I tried everything and couldn’t configure it with that option, because that was ‘my requirement’.

Please add an autonumber labeller like in fullshot. I want to click on the capture and have a label added with the number being auto-incremented every time I add a label. This makes documenting a screen layout very easy when using Fullshot…
Would love for Snagit to have the ability to open and edit pdf files, and then save the edited file. I have version 9 and unless I am missing something it doesn’t have this capability.

everything else is perfect it’s just the audio,
its always all fuzzy and I cant fix it…

You are most likely recording through the microphone. You are then not only recording the computer sound but also the surroundings. Try changing your computers recording settings.
As I run a seniors website where I am often asked to solve PC problems, using Snagit to capture images etc is fine as I can add text, call outs, arrows etc……but using Video capture would also like on some of the frames to be able to do the same IE add text…anyway of doing this?? Thanks

I used snagit very succesfully with windows XP but am having a horrible time using it with my new laptop and Windows Vista. My computer keeps freezing and I have to shut it down completely as the escape key doesn’t even work. What can I do it is so frustrating as I need to use it for my class notes. I have asked for help before but never receive a reply I don’t think I can be the only one having this problem. Please please help me. pr do I have to abandon it.

It is very doubtful that it’s Snagit causing this. Perhaps Snagit in connection with another software. You should definitely contact in-product support to see what the cause can be and include as much info as possible.

I have a Question about using snagit software. recently i captured an image using snagit to paste into my powerpoint presentation but noticed that the quality of the capture is different from the powerpoint image i copied from snagit. the image in the powerpoint looks so blurry and the text becomes really bold. i tried adjusting the resoultion but it doesn’t make any difference.
Can you please help.!!!
Would love to be able to save multiple captures in a single PDF file, which would have 1 page per image.
Would also love to not only be able to shrink image to the size of a page in the PDF, but also enlarge (maintinging aspect ratio) an image to the size of a page.
