Camtasia Screen Recorder Software 10 Year Anniversary
This website is mostly about Snagit. I don’t talk much (here) about other great software titles. In many ways, especially video recording, the big brother of Snagit is really Camtasia Studio. Well this post is a tribute to that big brother.
If Snagit is the ultimate tool to take any kind of screen shots, copy text, images and what-not from your screen, then Camtasia is the ultimate tool to record video from your screen. This is excellent when you want to create tutorials or any kind of instructional videos related to computer or internet use. Perfect to do software presentations, demos and so on.
Our all time favorite Screen Recording / Screencasting software Camtasia Studio is growing up. Camtasia was first released at Comdex 1999. Camtasia has come a long way in these last 10 years and are now available both on Mac and PC platform.
Techsmith compiled a cool timeline below that shows Camtasia milestones, advertising and logos, reviews, feature releases and technology milestones. Check it out:
To celebrate Camtasia’s 10th birthday, SoftwareCasa has a sale on Snagit Screen Capture and Camtasia Screen Recording software!
For a limited time, save an extra 10% on already-discounted volume licenses of Camtasia Studio, Snagit, or both in a bundle. Offer ends December 7, 2009. SoftwareCasa is also doing a special price on Snagit Single user - $47.00.

Snagit for Mac Announced
I have exciting news for all Macintosh users out there that has been waiting for Snagit for Mac. TechSmith (the maker of Snagit and Camtasia) has just announced that they are in the early development stages for Snagit on the Mac OS operating system.
The subject of Snagit for Mac is one of our most visited blog posts on this blog so the interest for this is nothing less than spectacular. Also the fact that many people that work within the graphics industry are working on Mac computers will also make this product one of the most interesting launches.
You can read the Betsy Webers blog post announcing the Snagit is coming news here. Betsy is mentioning that the product is in early development and my guess is that this means that it will be launched in a year or so. The announcement came only a day after the release of Camtasia for Mac.
We will be following the development of this product so if you are interested I suggest you sign up for our special Snagit for Mac subscriber list here.

Snagit 9.0 First Impressions

Snagit 9 was just released and I have to say I really like it
As a “snagger” i’d obviously prefer to sum it up in an image (see below), but if I have to say it in 3 words i would have to say – fast, easy and slick…
I need a little more time to test all the new different functions and additions, then give you more of an in-depth Snagit 9 review at a later date, but so far I am very impressed.
Read more about the new functions below…
Common Snagit License and Download Questions
Hello Snagit User
In this post you’ll find answers to the most common license and download questions – I lost Snagit, what do I do? I want to install Snagit on a second computer, can I? I lost my license key, can I get it back?
In connection to the emails we sent out the last weeks we have gotten a lot of similar questions and I am guessing you also perhaps could benefit from the answers.
But first, a BIG thanks to everyone that contributed to the blog post “Snagit 9 Wishlist“. We have had a fantastic response with more than 70 comments and counting.
I will huff and puff for these ideas to the Snagit development team and hopefully they will listen and implement many of them in near future releases.
If you have more ideas you would like to see implemented, please don’t hesitate to comment on the blog post and I will keep pushing for them.
Read on for common Snagit license and download questions…
Snagit 9 Wishlist
Help me improve Snagit…
In my humble opinion (but running this blog, perhaps a little biased) Snagit is as good as software can be. And I know many readers agree. But as someone once said, there is always room for improvement. That’s why I am curious as to what you would like to add if/when Snagit 9.0 is released.
I will send all comments to the Snagit development team so please include any additions to Snagit that you have thought about, are missing, you would like to add and so on. Please pour your heart out in the comment section below!
If you have colleagues, friends and family using Snagit, please ask them to put in their 5 cents here too.
The popular cliché “think outside the box” is perhaps true, but sometimes it’s easier to “think inside the box” so here is a basic breakdown of areas/functions you may have ideas about or want to change:
- Graphic interface. Is it easy to use, could it be improved, perhaps a complete new layout? Do you have any other software products that you think has a great layout that Snagit could benefit from looking at and so on. Share your ideas.
- Capture functionality. Are there any capture modes you feel are missing? Could there be other changes to the capture functionality. Is it easy enough to set up new capture profiles and so on?
- Editing functionality. What about editing your screen captures, do you use the Snagit Editor, what should be changed in the editor?
- Sharing functionality. Like to share your images with others, if so – how?
- Add-ons. Any software you would like to have an output available directly from inside Snagit.
- Other areas. Any other areas that you feel improvements would be helpful.
OK, I’ll go first…
Audio in Video Clip – Problem
I received an email from a client trying to capture video in Snagit. But when trying to play the snagit video no sound was heard.
Hi Peter
I’m having a problem and wonder if you could offer some advice. The audio in
video clips with sound that I’m recording is not showing up any longer.
Until recently, the audio was just fine. I’m not aware of any changes I’ve
made in recording or settings. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks a lot
Mark

Output Snagit Clips to Camtasia Studio
TechSmith just released a new addon to Snagit. You can now output images directly from Snagit into Camtasia.
The Camtasia Output adds a button to the toolbar inside SnagIt’s Capture Preview window.
Just click the button and your image is sent directly to Camtasia Studio’s clip bin so you can easily insert it into your video.
Free Snagit
TechSmith is now offering their previous version of Snagit 7 as a free download…
Too good to be true, I think so, but still it’s true. So if you’re not using Snagit yet, I highly recommend you to grab this offer and run.
But wait, there is even more…

Apology – Multiple Emails
I would like to apologize for some of our subscribers that have received more than one emails telling about this new blog.
The software script I use when sending out the emails just went berserk. This resulted in that several subscribers received more than one email.
I can assure you that I am taking this very seriously. We have immediately signed up for a new service to avoid that anything like this will repeat itself in the future and will hopefully start moving over to the new platform in the next few days.
Again, sorry for the multiple emails.

Snagit OneNote 2007 Output
A new output for Snagit was just released, for Microsoft OneNote 2007.

The Jing project is an experiment about how to share images and video online in a more fluent way. For example when you are chatting, or want to do a quick screen cast for your blog.
And it’s free…

Screen Capture Printer (graphic)Print Exactly What You Want
Tired of your screen captures printing the size of a postage stamp? SnagIt 8.2 makes it easy to print screen captures exactly the way you see them onscreen – the right way, every time. Images and scrolling Web pages are readable when printed and retain their original appearance. Also, print settings are now easier to adjust, and SnagIt remembers your last-used settings.

Screen Capture Callouts (graphic)New Callout Styles
SnagIt’s two new callout styles, plain and glassy, give you more flexibility than ever in customizing your screen captures. The plain callouts are a little simpler, with less shading than SnagIt’s standard callouts. And, the new glassy callouts are not only cool, but they’re transparent – so they won’t obstruct your view of the words or images behind them.

Save and Organize your Custom Callouts
SnagIt lets you customize callout characteristics like size, shape, color and angle of rotation. With the new callout organizer, you can save your customized callouts for reuse in your screen captures again and again. Create categories for your callouts, and organize callouts by dragging and dropping them from one category to another. Your custom categories will appear in the Paint Tools menu with SnagIt’s default callouts, making them easily accessible while you are editing your captures.

Happy New Year!
In just a few days we will release info on the new website: The Snagit Guide!
In the meantime – check out the ultimate Screen Capture Tool – Snagit 8.2
