Snagit Scrolling Window NOT Working

Hello Friends!

Snagit is the Best Screen Capture software – I can confidently say no doubt about it. There’s a cliche that goes, “Nobody’s Perfect.” Well nobody doesn’t necessarily have to be a person, it can also be applied to things and animals. ‘Nothing is Perfect’ well with one exception SNAGIT IS PERFECT

Today I am sharing one common issue that some Snagit Fans may have experienced and thought there was no solution. You get a nice long article that you want to capture and print but oh no! Snagit Scroll Feature won’t work! Relax am here to help you sort this one out.

First of all if you are still using Snagit version 7 or 8 you should think about upgrading. Lots of the little nagging issues in previous versions of Snagit have been resolved in Snagit 9. I think Snagit 9 upgrade is well worth it

To use the Auto-Scroll Capture feature correctly you need to adjust some settings. Follow the instructions below:

For Snagit Version 8 or 9

IMAGE

1. Select Input

2. Go to Properties

3. Click on Scrolling tab

4. Set the Scroll delay to “0″ miliseconds.

5. Set the Scroll direction to “Both”

6. Click Apply, then OK

7. Select Input > Scrolling > Auto Scroll Window

8. Open the program you want to scroll.

9. Click on the Capture hotkey or open SnagIt and click the Red Capture button to start.

10. Once you see the hand-cursor, click on the middle of the window that you want to scroll and wait for a few moments for it to scroll and make the capture.

For Snagit versions 7 and older

I recommend you use the Custom Scroll Window function because the settings of Auto-Scroll Window will not work properly due to the non-standard scrollbars that redraws during scrolling.

To use Custom Scroll, do the following:

1. Select Input

2. Go to Scrolling

3. Choose Custom Scroll

4. Open the program that you want to capture

5. Click the Capture hotkey

5. Once you see the crosshair scroll that allows you to drag your desired region then click on the down arrow control with the left mouse button to begin the capture.

For windows that is scrolled horizontally, I recommend you use the Extended Window input, most especially if you are using XP. To set Extended Window, do the following:

1. Select Input

2. Go to Advanced

3. Choose Extended Window

If you are unable to scroll, you can also change the Scroll delay value, to do so, follow this:

1. Select Input

2. Go to Properties

3. Click on Scrolling Tab

4. Set the Scroll delay to 300, then 500, then 1000 to see whichever allows you to create a successful capture.

Snagit as Collaboration Tool

Hi There

Most people I speak with agree that Snagit is the best screen capture software around.But I would also have to add that Snagit is more, it’s a great tool for collaboration work as well. It saves so much time and makes everything much clearer!

Please share any comments, ideas or stories you have about using Snagit in collaboration work in the comment section below. I would love to hear these stories.

Are the following scenarios perhaps familiar to you?

Have you ever experienced chatting with your teammate about an error you see on a web page that he can’t see when in fact both of you are on the same page?

Have you ever tried teaching a teammate how to do certain steps on a software or a website but they don’t seem to get the same end-result you do?

Yes, that can be annoying. Good thing, Snagit can solve these problems between you and your teammates. You can do this with Snagit, by simply taking a shot of those things you have on your screen and a little edit, you can instantly send it to your teammate via instant messaging, email, etc.

To me, as a user working with a team, SnagIt has been very helpful in sending and sharing my ideas, thoughts and instructions to my teammates. Misunderstanding almost never happens and it serves as another layer of added clear and concise communication between the team.

The team primary use email and skype internet messenger to collaborate and Snagit enhances both these tools. I paste in instructions in emails as in the example (see image). Then I enhance the images with arrows, comments using the drawing tool. Please note, for this to work you need to have your email set to html, not txt format.

To easily share when chatting with Skype I also use the Snagit Skype Add-on. This makes it possible to immediately send captures to anyone on my skype chat list. You find the Snagit Skype Add-on here. (Require that Skype is installed on both parties computers.)

Output Snagit Clips to Camtasia Studio

TechSmith just released a new addon to Snagit. You can now output images directly from Snagit into Camtasia.

The Camtasia Output adds a button to the toolbar inside SnagIt’s Capture Preview window.

Just click the button and your image is sent directly to Camtasia Studio’s clip bin so you can easily insert it into your video.

This is an excellent way of easily adding graphics into your Camtasia Studio 5 videos.

A few areas you could use this addon: Add improved graphics into your Camtasia videos, add nicer texts and so on.

It took me about 1 minute to download, install and send my first Snagit capture over to Camtasia Studio. This is definitely a time saver.

Interview with a Snagit Fanatic – Part 2

Time to publish the rest of the interview with Lisa. She sent me a suitable picture for halloween

In the first part Lisa was telling us some Snagit secrets. If you haven’t read part 1 yet, that’s the place to start.

Today Lisa will share some funny experiences she has had related to Snagit.

So Lisa, take it away, do you have any funny Snagit stories to share?

I have so many good stories from working with our customers. I received a call one day from a parent whose son was using SnagIt (and Camtasia Studio) for their project for the science fair. The judges of the competition were so impressed that the student not only won hands down but his project went off to be judged in the National Science Fair in Washington, D.C.

That’s a winner to me!! I’ve got many funny stories as well. Recently our VP of Business Development went to China for a business trip. Some of the ladies there told him on numerous occasions that he looks like Colonel Sanders. We think not. However, I couldn’t resist the urge to snag his head and place it over the snagged image of the face of Col. Sanders on a bucket of chicken and send it to him and select coworkers! He was glad we didn’t see the resemblance!

I also recently doctored up a photo for a friend who was in the dating scene. He had a picture from a camping trip at waters edge with his shirt off. He had a bit of a pot-belly (from too much beer) but wanted to use that photo. Well, thanks to SnagIt my friend now looks like he has a trim stomach! He’s a devoted SnagIt user now.

That’s cool. I agree there are plenty of fun things you can do with the Snagit Editor. So what about funny client stories?

I had a husband call me one day to order a second license of SnagIt a few days after his first purchase. He said that he and his wife were fighting over whom could use the license because they both wanted to use the software. They knew that only one person could use the one license.

Well, she got early the next morning, grabbed the software box and ran off with it to work! I guess the early bird really does get the worm!

I also had a customer contact me from Iraq. He was a Marine stationed over there; his family was here in the states. He wanted to email photos of him and his fellow patriots having fun and playing sports in the camp but they were too large and some details were not allowed to be transmitted. He was able to purchase a license to use SnagIt, doctor the photos, blur out some details and send a much smaller file home to his family. They have since recommended it to other soldiers and their families for this purpose.

And, by the way, I have used SnagIt SIX times since completing this interview!

Interview with a Snagit Fanatic – Part 1

Lisa is working for Techsmith, the maker of among several other software titles, Snagit. Lisa is by her own admission a “Snagit fanatic”, and that got me curious.

I really wanted to know more about how a really experienced Snagit user utilize the software. Not that it is difficult to use, but I am sure there are ways we don’t know about.

So here we go…

- Lisa, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Wow, this is a loaded question. Where do I begin? I know the list is long so pick out what you want to use…

Professionally, I have been around technology for 10 years in sales and account management roles.

I’ve sold it all – software, hardware, professional/consultative services, training, and website design to commercial and government customers.

I work for TechSmith Corporation, makers of world renowned software including SnagIt (my favorite). I also own a small local pub, open only in the evenings. I work there 5-6 evenings a week and simply love interacting with the people.

- Lisa, that’s just amazing. You sure are an energetic person. So how long have you been using SnagIt?

I’ve been using SnagIt everyday since I started working for TechSmith Corporation in March 2006. Sometimes I use it multiple times a day. I’m sure I’ll use it several times before this interview is over.

- What’s so good about SnagIt?

Another loaded question with too many answers! Just like our website states, you can capture, edit and share anything with a few clicks. Maybe I’ll just start a small list:

1) The ease of use – it is very user friendly! It didn’t take me very long to figure out how to use it.

2) The editing features are too numerous to mention. I can do anything to an image right down to the very pixel. From photos to documents to web content – it helps me to perfects them all.

3) It has a small footprint on my computer and doesn’t eat up a lot of resources.

4) I can share any of my images with one click of a button – email, IM, online photo sharing to Flickr.com, etc.

5) I can capture small videos to view at a later date or to share with friends or coworkers.

6) The quickness in which you can capture data and edit. Sometimes it takes me only seconds to capture an image and email to the person(s) I want to view the image.

7) The price is right! For all the features you get, management has still kept the price low.

SnagIt never argues with me and is so loyal. All my friends love SnagIt, as SnagIt is good to them too. I’ll be faithful ’til death do us part! Do you think my Husband is jealous?

- What’s your favorite ways to use SnagIt?

I love to use SnagIt to communicate with my customers all the time. I’m always taking snags of their account information & instructional documentation for their records.

I send snags of sales leads to our partners, snags from event photos to coworkers, snags of questions about something I might have to my boss, and instructional snags to coworkers who need to understand a particular procedure.

I use SnagIt for my pub as well. I create ALL of my event flyers and menus with SnagIt. I also use it to make notes on electronic documents like scanned purchase receipts and snags of cleared check images.

Some of my favorite ways to use SnagIt are for fun. I can take and doctor a picture and make it look silly, or send comparison snags of funny things that make people laugh.

- Who do you think would really benefit from using SnagIt?

Everyone, of course! Every profession in every market can use SnagIt in its day to day activities. Every stay-at-home parent, every student, and every volunteer can use SnagIt.

From children in middle school to retirees, doctors, police and everyone in between, they all call me to find out how to better use SnagIt. It just makes communication so much more clear and colorful.

- Any secrets ways to use Snagit that you could share?

There are no real secrets to using SnagIt as the possibilities are only limited by someone’s knowledge of the product functionalities. I enjoy using the “Images from Web Page” capture profile to instantly capture all the images on a particular webpage.

This saves me from having to capture one at a time and saving independently as well. I also love to take two photos, cut the best from one and overlay on the other. I’ve created some really wonderful pictures by doing that type of editing.

Blog Image Output

There are so many new Snagit add-ons released that I can hardly keep up writing about all of them.

Keep reading and I will tell you about the latest…

Just last week four new blogging outputs was released. If you are using LiveJournal, Wordpress.com, Typepad or Movable Type there is a new add-on available for download.

Adding images to your blogs can be a real hassle. But if you have a chance it is definitely worth it and with this new add-on to Snagit it has suddenly become much easier. In fact, you can upload your images by a click of a button.

You can easily output your “snagged” images directly to your favorite blog platform. If you are blogging on these platforms I highly recommend this add-on.

The blog image output add-on appear as a button up in your Snagit Capture Preview Window. You need to enter the account information for your blog (only the first time) and the image is automatically uploaded.

Snagit OneNote 2007 Output

A new output for Snagit was just released, for Microsoft OneNote 2007.

With one click you can send your Snagit scren captures over to your OneNote application.

If you are a OneNote user this is a must have application. callkathy has pointed out several excellent uses for this Output function. For example:

- You can now output long and wide pages to OneNote
- You can now annotate your captures and send them to OneNote
