Snagit 9 was just released and I have to say I really like it  <img src='http://www.snagitguide.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':-)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>As a &#8220;snagger&#8221; i&#8217;d obviously prefer to sum it up in an image (see below), but if I have to say it in 3 words i would have to say - fast, easy and slick&#8230;</p>
<p>I need a little more time to test all the new different functions and additions, then give you more of an in-depth Snagit 9 review at a later date, but so far I am very impressed.</p>
<p>Read more about the new functions below&#8230;</p>
<p><span id="more-75"></span></p>
<h3>Snagit 9 Overview</h3>
<p>It takes a little time to get used to the new ribbon menu, but when you do it&#8217;s easier and faster to work with.</p>
<p>A great improvement over older versions is that you have access to previous captures and can jump freely between them and copy and paste as you like. The annoying preview mode has also been removed, which is great.</p>
<p>In the image below I have pasted in Snagit inside the Snagit Editor so you get an overview of both.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-82" title="snagit-9-overview3" src="http://www.snagitguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/snagit-9-overview3.png" alt="Snagit 9 Overview" width="500" height="545" /></p>
<p><a href="http://www.snagitguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/snagit-9-overview.png"> </a></p>
<h3>And what do the critics say?</h3>
<p>&#8220;5 reasons to love the new SnagIt 9&#8230; a familiar, intuitive, and much more varnished capture utility whose image editor has finally come of age.&#8221; <strong>–Jessica Dolcourt, <a style="color: #4466aa;" title="http://lists.techsmith.com/t/3351713/14077845/4270/0/?u=aHR0cDovL3d3dy5kb3dubG9hZC5jb20vODMwMS0yMDA3XzQtOTk2MzkzOC0xMi5odG1s&amp;x=6e0a0b87" href="http://lists.techsmith.com/t/3351713/14077845/4270/0/?u=aHR0cDovL3d3dy5kb3dubG9hZC5jb20vODMwMS0yMDA3XzQtOTk2MzkzOC0xMi5odG1s&amp;x=6e0a0b87" target="_blank">C|NET Download.com</a></strong></p>
<p>&#8220;SnagIt 9 - the ribbon edition! I&#8217;ve only used it for a couple of hours but I&#8217;m already finding the most useful new feature is how it auto-saves captures and allows you to retrieve them from the&#8230;panel on the right&#8230;in a click&#8230; it greatly simplifies working on more complex composite images.&#8221; <strong>–Robin Capper, <a style="color: #4466aa;" title="http://lists.techsmith.com/t/3351713/14077845/4271/0/?u=aHR0cDovL3JjZC50eXBlcGFkLmNvbS9yY2QvMjAwOC8wNi9zbmFnaXQtOS0tLXRoZS1yaWJib24tZWRpdGlvbi5odG1s&amp;x=c17b2976" href="http://lists.techsmith.com/t/3351713/14077845/4271/0/?u=aHR0cDovL3JjZC50eXBlcGFkLmNvbS9yY2QvMjAwOC8wNi9zbmFnaXQtOS0tLXRoZS1yaWJib24tZWRpdGlvbi5odG1s&amp;x=c17b2976" target="_blank">RobiNZ CAD Blog</a></strong></p>
<p><strong></strong>&#8220;The new multiple image capabilities and auto-storing of captures is going to save me huge amounts of time. Now I&#8217;ll be able to take several variations of screen shots and decide later which ones works best for the final product.&#8221; <strong>–Sue Chastain, <a style="color: #4466aa;" title="http://lists.techsmith.com/t/3351713/14077845/4272/0/?u=aHR0cDovL2dyYXBoaWNzc29mdC5hYm91dC5jb20vYi8yMDA4LzA2LzEwL3NuYWdpdC05LXNjcmVlbi1jYXB0dXJlLXNvZnR3YXJlLXJlbGVhc2VkLXRvZGF5Lmh0bQ%3d%3d&amp;x=9c9f12b2" href="http://lists.techsmith.com/t/3351713/14077845/4272/0/?u=aHR0cDovL2dyYXBoaWNzc29mdC5hYm91dC5jb20vYi8yMDA4LzA2LzEwL3NuYWdpdC05LXNjcmVlbi1jYXB0dXJlLXNvZnR3YXJlLXJlbGVhc2VkLXRvZGF5Lmh0bQ%3d%3d&amp;x=9c9f12b2" target="_blank">About.com Guide to Graphics Software</a></strong></p>

<p class="MsoPlainText">In this post you&#8217;ll find answers to the most common license and download questions - <em>I lost Snagit, what do I do? I want to install Snagit on a second computer, can I? I lost my license key, can I get it back?</em></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">In connection to the emails we sent out the last weeks we have gotten a lot of similar questions and I am guessing you also perhaps could benefit from the answers.</p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">But first, a <strong>BIG thanks</strong> to everyone that contributed to the blog post &#8220;<a title="Snagit 9" href="http://www.snagitguide.com/60/snagit-9-wishlist/" target="_self">Snagit 9 Wishlist</a>&#8220;. We have had a fantastic response with more than 70 comments and counting.</p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">I will huff and puff for these ideas to the Snagit development team and hopefully they will listen and implement many of them in near future releases.</p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">If you have more ideas you would like to see implemented, please don&#8217;t hesitate to <a title="Snagit 9.0" href="http://www.snagitguide.com/60/snagit-9-wishlist/" target="_self">comment on the blog post</a> and I will keep pushing for them.</p>

<p class="MsoPlainText">You can <a title="Download Snagit" href="http://free-software-downloads.softwarecasa.com/screen-recording/snagit/" target="_blank">download the latest release of Snagit here</a>. It&#8217;s in trial status, so you will need to license it using the license key you got in connection with your original order. If you have an <a title="Upgrade Snagit" href="http://www.softwarecasa.com/upgrade-software.php" target="_blank">earlier version of Snagit you can contact us for upgrade information</a>.</p>

<p class="MsoPlainText">Yes, if you ordered from our partner <a title="Snagit Screen Capture" href="http://www.softwarecasa.com/snagit.html" target="_self">SoftwareCasa</a>, they keep your license information so you can just contact them and <a title="Snagit support" href="http://www.softwarecasa.com/support-center/" target="_self">request your Snagit license key</a>. If you ordered your software at TechSmith, you can <a href="http://www.techsmith.com/company/contact/lostkey.asp" target="_blank">request your key here</a>. And if you ordered elsewhere you will need to contact the company you originally purchased the software from.</p>

<h4>Help me improve Snagit&#8230;</h4>
<p>In my humble opinion (but running this blog, perhaps a little biased) Snagit is as good as software can be. And I know many readers agree. But as someone once said, there is always room for improvement. That&#8217;s why I am curious as to what you would like to add if/when Snagit 9.0 is released.</p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<p class="MsoPlainText">I will send all comments to the Snagit development team so please include any additions to Snagit that you have thought about, are missing, you would like to add and so on. Please pour your heart out in the comment section below!</p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<p class="MsoPlainText">If you have colleagues, friends and family using Snagit, please ask them to put in their 5 cents here too.</p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<p class="MsoPlainText">The popular cliché &#8220;think outside the box&#8221; is perhaps true, but sometimes it&#8217;s easier to &#8220;think inside the box&#8221; so here is a basic breakdown of areas/functions you may have ideas about or want to change:</p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<ul>
<li><span> </span><strong>Graphic interface</strong>. Is it easy to use, could it be improved, perhaps a complete new layout? Do you have any other software products that you think has a great layout that Snagit could benefit from looking at and so on. Share your ideas.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><span> </span><strong>Capture functionality</strong>. Are there any capture modes you feel are missing? Could there be other changes to the capture functionality. Is it easy enough to set up new capture profiles and so on?</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><span> </span><strong>Editing functionality</strong>. What about editing your screen captures, do you use the Snagit Editor, what should be changed in the editor?</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><span> </span><strong>Sharing functionality</strong>. Like to share your images with others, if so - how?</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><span> </span><strong>Add-ons</strong>. Any software you would like to have an output available directly from inside Snagit.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><span> </span><strong>Other areas</strong>. Any other areas that you feel improvements would be helpful.</li>
</ul>
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<p class="MsoPlainText">OK, I&#8217;ll go first&#8230;</p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<p class="MsoPlainText"><span id="more-60"></span></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<p class="MsoPlainText">Here are a few of the things I would like to see improved.</p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<h4>About the interface</h4>
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<p class="MsoPlainText"><a href="http://www.snagitguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/snagit-profiles.png"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-72" title="snagit-profiles" src="http://www.snagitguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/snagit-profiles-297x300.png" alt="Snagit 9 Profiles" width="297" height="300" /></a>I like the Snagit 8 interface, but I would like the software to remember my favorite profiles and steps I have taken to create a profile.</p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<p class="MsoPlainText">For example when doing screen captures for my blogs I often like to decrease the file size to 75%, set up a shadow and save it in png. After I have done this a couple of times perhaps the software can ask if I would like to make this a Capture Profile.</p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<p class="MsoPlainText"><span> </span></p>
<h4>Editing Functionality</h4>
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<p class="MsoPlainText">I dream of when will Snagit incorporate layers. If you have done any work with Photoshop you know what I mean. Let&#8217;s say you have worked with adding elements to your image, perhaps Text, Stamps or Callouts and you would like to remove one of the elements that you included earlier. Now you can choose to step back in the editor and remove everything that you added until you have backed all the way up to the element that you want to remove.</p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<p class="MsoPlainText">It would be lovely just being able to click on the element you wish to remove and remove it.</p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<h4>More Snagit Editor improvements</h4>
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<p class="MsoPlainText"><a href="http://www.snagitguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/smartdraw-effects.png"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-70" title="smartdraw-effects" src="http://www.snagitguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/smartdraw-effects-223x300.png" alt="SmartDraw 2008 Effects" width="223" height="300" /></a>I work a lot with the editor and I love the new glassy callouts and similar effects released in I believe Snagit 8.2. It would be great to have more shadow and &#8220;button&#8221; effects could be added to the editor.</p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<p class="MsoPlainText">If you have looked at the effects in SmartDraw you know what I mean. The Image here show the SmartDraw shadow effects. Check out <a title="SmartDraw 2008" href="http://www.softwarecasa.com/smartdraw.html" target="_blank">SmartDraw 2008</a>.</p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">Another great edit feature would be if I could save a number of steps when editing and perform them as one function. Kind of like the Capture profiles, but in a specific order.</p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<p class="MsoPlainText">So now it&#8217;s your turn, please comment below and let us know what improvements you are looking for.</p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">
<p class="MsoPlainText">Talk to you soon <img src='http://www.snagitguide.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';-)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

Have you ever tried to capture video with Snagit but instead of getting the video you end up with a black or grey screen?

The problem is actually not related to Snagit but usually due to graphics hardware acceleration being used to display the image/video.

Newer media players normally use graphics hardware acceleration on your system.

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">The problem you are describing is not related to Snagit, it is related to the settings of your sound card. </span></span></p>
